Basic Term Life Insurance

Eligibility

Emory provides $10,000 Basic Term Life Insurance coverage for regular full-time employees, and $5,000 for employees who are regular half-time or temporary full-time designated as "greater than a six-month assignment", respectively.

How to Enroll

No enrollment is necessary. This benefit is automatically provided when an employee is eligible.

You can change your beneficiaries through Employee Self Service.

Supplemental Term Life Insurance

Eligibility

If you are a Faculty, Staff and Post Doc regular employee scheduled to work at least 20 hours per week, or a temporary full-time employee designated as "greater than a six-month assignment", you are eligible to participate in Supplemental Term Life Insurance.

You may purchase additional life insurance at group rates for yourself, spouse/same-sex domestic partner and dependent children.

Annual Enrollment

Employee
You can elect supplemental life insurance coverage in increments of $10,000, up to a maximum of $750,000. If you are purchasing additional coverage for the first time, or increasing your amount of additional coverage by more than $20,000, you need to complete an EOI form. However, during each Annual Benefits Enrollment, you can elect to increase your existing coverage level by $20,000 without completing an EOI form.

Spouse/SSDP
You can elect life insurance coverage for your spouse/ SSDP in increments of $10,000, up to a maximum of $300,000. If you are purchasing additional coverage for the first time, or increasing your amount of additional coverage by more than $10,000, an EOI form is required. However, during each Annual Benefits Enrollment, you can elect to increase your existing coverage level by $10,000 without completing an EOI form.

Child
You can elect life insurance for your eligible child(ren) in increments of $2,000, up to a maximum of $10,000.

 

 

How to Enroll

You must enroll through Employee Self Service for coverage within the initial 31 days following your date of hire in an eligible status.

After 31 days:

 

If you and your spouse/same-sex domestic partner are both employed by Emory, you cannot insure each other, and only one can insure the children.
