Whether you have planned legal expenses or just want to be prepared for the unexpected, MetLife Legal Plans is available to meet your needs.

About the Plan

With the Prepaid Legal plan, there are no claim forms, deductibles, hour limits, co-pays or caps for covered services performed by a plan attorney. Since this is a group plan, you receive discounted rates on the cost of coverage.

The plan is portable, so if you leave Emory, you can continue your coverage.

Eligibility

Regular full-time or part-time employees scheduled to work 20 hours or more per week are eligible.

Temporary employees are not eligible.

Coverage begins on an employee's date of hire. If you are benefits-eligible, you must enroll during your first 31 days of employment with Emory. Coverage is effective the 1st of the following month after you submit your enrollment.

Cost

The plan is available for $16.74 per month and covers you, a spouse and legal dependents/child(ren). For more information, call MetLife Legal Plans at 800-821-6400.

How to Enroll

New Hires

Eligible employees can enroll through Self-Service anytime during the first 31 days of employment. View Step-by-Step Enrollment Instructions

If you do not enroll during your first 31 days of employment, you will not receive coverage. Your next opportunity to enroll will be during annual enrollment.

Current Employees

Employees are provided an opportunity to make changes to their benefits each year during annual enrollment (held in the fall).

How the Plan Works

The Prepaid Legal Plan gives employees access to more than 4,000 participating law firms and more than 9,000 participating lawyers in the United States.

To use the plan, call the MetLife Benefits line at 800-821-6400, weekdays 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. or visit the website; Select thinkingaboutenrolling and enter password 1500626. A customer service representative will refer you to a participating attorney near you. Evening and Saturday appointments are available.

If you have a preferred attorney to use who is not on the list, the plan can still save you money on legal fees for covered services by reimbursing you for the cost of services rendered by a non-plan attorney based on a set fee schedule. You will be responsible for paying the difference between the attorney's charges and the plan's reimbursement amount.

Through the plan, you, your spouse and your legal dependent children have access to covered legal services for the same affordable price.

Expanded Caregiver Benefits

The Prepaid Legal Plan will offer expanded caregiver benefits for 2024. With this new benefit, employees will have the opportunity to have one-on-one unlimited Caregiver Support, including customized caregiving solutions, through the Metlife Prepaid Legal Plan. Here are a few examples of caregiver problems this benefit will support:
