REHIRED RETIREES


If you are a retiree who is returning to work at Emory, it is very important that you discuss with the hiring official how many hours you will work so they can provide the correct information to Human Resources.


arrow  MEDICAL:  

If you are rehired to work at least half-time, and you are over age 65, Medicare may become the secondary plan and the University plan becomes primary. Be sure to inform your doctors so they can bill the insurance company correctly. NOTE: HRA contributions will be suspended while you are in an active status.

 

arrow  RETIREMENT PLAN:  

You will be eligible to make contributions and receive Emory’s employer basic and matching contributions. If you are rehired, your ability to access your 403(b) retirement funds may be affected. Speak with your Benefits Specialist prior to rehire for more information.

 

arrow  LIFE INSURANCE:  

The Basic Life Insurance you have as a retiree will continue if you are rehired, working less than 20 hours per week. If you are working more than 20 hours per week, your retiree life insurance will be suspended and you will be eligible for active employee life insurance plans.

 

arrow  DISABILITY INSURANCE: 

Rehired retirees are not eligible to participate in the Long Term or Short Term Disability Plans.
