National Walking Day 2018 is Wednesday, April 4!

This annual event is a call-to-action to increase physical activity by starting with a 30-minute walk during the workday to promote physical activity and well-being.

Each year, Emory University and Emory Healthcare employees participate in organized walks on Emory’s campuses, joining thousands of others across the country who walk on this American Heart Association sponsored day.

Shoe Donation and Recycling

Emory will partner with Big Peach Running Company and Big Peach Outreach again to coordinate sneaker donations and recycling opportunities at select Emory locations (see list below). Last year Emory employees donated over 200 pairs of shoes! Each employee who attends a walk, and donates sneakers on National Walking Day will receive a chance to win some great prizes, including one of three $100 Gift cards from Big Peach Running Company!

Emory Donation Sites:

What type of shoes should I bring?

Athletic shoes are most versatile. Consider donating shoes used for running, cross training, basketball, soccer, etc. Avoid donating cleats, sandals, and heeled shoes.

Shoes are generally expected to be a little worn, dirty, and even stinky but still usable for the donation. As a general rule of thumb… "no holes in the soles."

All major athletic brands are accepted!
