Asthma
Asthma is a lung disease that makes breathing difficult for nearly 23 million Americans, including 7 million children. With asthma, the airways are often swollen and red (or inflamed), making them extra sensitive to triggers in the everyday environment. (American Lung Association)

Cystic Fibrosis

Cystic fibrosis (CF) is an inherited disease that causes thick, sticky mucus to form in the lungs, pancreas and other organs. In the lungs, this mucus blocks the airways, causing lung damage and making it hard to breathe. Cystic fibrosis is the second most common inherited disorder occurring in childhood in the United States, behind sickle cell anemia. More than 10 million Americans carry the defective cystic fibrosis gene without knowing it. Approximately 30,000 people in the United States have CF. About 1,000 new cases of Cystic Fibrosis are diagnosed each year. (American Lung Association)
