HR Policy Changes
The Human Resources Department recently revised several Emory HR policies. The policy titles and the changes that have been made are provided below (new language is highlighted in yellow):
Administrative Leave

Policy Change: Under ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE WITHOUT PAY, the following new language has been added:
An employee may not be moved to a medical leave status while on administrative leave.
FMLA

Policy Change: Under REASONS FOR LEAVE, the following new language has been added:
FMLA leave should be requested for the following reasons:
Because of the employee's own serious health condition resulting in a period of medical incapacity of more than 3 consecutive, full calendar days, and any subsequent treatment or period of incapacity related to the same condition.
Medical Leave (Non-FMLA)

Policy Change: Under REQUESTING LEAVE, the following new language has been added:
When seeking non-FMLA medical leave, employees may be required to provide second or third medical opinions and periodic re-certifications may also be required;
A statement from a health care provider verifying the current status of an employee’s serious health condition may be required at any time during a medical leave.
Before an employee may return to work from a medical leave, the employee must present documentation from a health care provider to resume all job duties and responsibilities.
Failure to comply with the foregoing requirements may result in delay or denial of leave or reinstatement from leave.

Policy change: Under POLICY DETAILS, the following new language has been added:
Consensual romantic or sexual relationships in which one party retains a direct supervisory or evaluative role over the other party.
Vacation Leave for Monthly Employees

Policy change: Under COMPENSATION FOR ACCRUED LEAVE UPON TERMINATION, the following new language has been added:
Accrued, unused vacation time may not be used to extend an employee’s termination or retirement date.
Vacation Leave for Biweekly Employees
