Special Educational Series on Adoption in Georgia
The Emory WorkLife Resouce Center is sponsoring a special educational workshop series on adoption in Georgia. The following workshops are available:
- The Legal Process for Adoption in Georgia. In this workshop, you will learn the legal requirements of adopting a child in Georgia. This workshop can help you understand the legal terminology and help you navigate who can assist you in the adoption process. You will learn about the types of adoption, the definition of parent vs. biological, an estimate of the costs involved and how some costs can be defrayed. - Understanding Adoption through Foster Care in Georgia. This workshop will focus on adoption through the foster care system. CHRISKids is a foster care organization that works with county and state agencies across the country to identify adoptive families for children in the foster care system. In this workshop, CHRISKids will walk through the process of how an adoption is made with a family wanting to adopt a child in foster care in Georgia and in other states. This course of action entails training, counseling, home studies, costs and the end-process of the adoption. - Understanding Adoption Agencies and the Process of International Adoption. This workshop will walk you through the steps of working with private agencies and identifying the right agency to guide you through the adoption process. The workshop will cover how to choose an agency, the costs you may incur, how the process works from starting the process to home studies, counseling, training, to the end process. The workshop will also cover navigating international adoptions, which includes costs, and home studies that comply with international regulations. In addition, it will cover an overview of international regulations on adoptions with an overview of the Hague Convention on Adoption.
