Mentor Emory

The Mentor Emory program provides individuals with one-to-one partnering that enhances the growth of both the mentee and the mentor. No matter what your professional goals are or where you are in your career, you can benefit from this program.

About this program

Ideal mentors are experienced professionals with the desire to coach, support and develop another individual. Potential mentors will coach the mentee through a self-discovery process as well as enhance their own coaching and listening skills. Employees in leadership roles, faculty members and principal investigators are strongly encouraged to serve as mentors.

Ideal mentees have clear objectives, a willingness to receive feedback, and a desire to focus on their own professional growth.

Program Goals

The goals of the Mentor Emory Program are to:

  • Foster the professional growth of both mentors and mentees
  • Provide enhanced communication and connectivity
  • Instill a sense of belonging amongst participants
  • Help Emory retain talent

Nomination and Selection Process

Potential mentors and mentees can either be nominated by someone else or nominate themselves to participate in this program. If you nominate yourself, you must still have the formal support of your manager in the form of a letter of recommendation, submitted with your application.

Mentee-Mentor pairs are matched based on common goals and expertise. Participants will be selected based on their stated goals, availability of a potential mentor, and manager recommendation.

Expectations

Mentors and mentees must:

  • Attend the kick-off and orientation programs
  • Participate in all Mentor Emory activities
  • Devote two hours per month to the mentoring process
  • Follow through on commitments

If you are interested in applying to this program, you should first review the Program-at-a-Glance to make sure you fully understand the level of commitment involved.
