BPI Scholars Applications Now Open for 2019
The Office of Business Practice Improvement (BPI) is excited to begin accepting applications for its fifth BPI Scholars class, starting in March 2019. BPI Scholars is an eight-month professional development program for high-performing, early and mid-career Emory staff. Sponsored by their home unit, Scholars learn, develop, and implement project management, communication, analytical and leadership skills.
Scholars participate in weekly sessions that include general coursework and talks by Emory leadership on university management topics. When applying, candidates must identify a practice improvement opportunity in their current units, which becomes the focus of their hands on work. Scholars should expect to spend four to six hours per week on the program, varying by week, above and beyond their regular job duties. The program is intended to benefit both the Scholar and their home unit.
Since the inaugural Scholars class launched in January 2014, the program has graduated 27 participants. One alumnus, Margo Kamel, PhD, the Associate Director for Research Projects in the School of Medicine Pediatric Nephrology Division, had this to say about her Scholars experience:
“The opportunity to be part of the BPI Scholars Program is one of the most enriching experiences of my time at Emory University. The expertise of the instructors, the lecture series by Emory University and Healthcare leaders, and the incredible dynamic of a diverse group of peer participants from across Emory made this an immense learning experience. With a small class size, the program provided unfettered access to leaders who were engaging, and generous in sharing their expertise and knowledge. The project management tools BPI provided have proven invaluable over and over again as I seek out and tackle complex process improvement projects.”
