Emory Proposal Express: EPEX = SPAF
Emory Proposal Express (EPEX) is the new electronic proposal routing system that replaced the Sponsored Programs Approval Form (SPAF) on 9/1/09, coinciding with PeopleSoft go-live. Designed to feed PeopleSoft delivered pages, EPEX has the capability to assist with budget development, electronically route proposals for required signatures and institutional approval and allow for step-by-step tracking of a proposal's progression through the approval process and agency submission. Like the SPAF, EPEX is a necessary accompaniment to any grant or contract requiring Institutional endorsement.
Comprised of five distinct sections, General Proposal Information, Project Specific Information, Budget Information, Workflow, and Audit History, EPEX will provide the data necessary to record information sufficient for internal tracking and reporting purposes and ensure greater data integrity for both OSP and OGCA. In addition to being a more robust system than Grants previously utilized, it is very flexible, allowing a user to perform his or her step in the process from any computer with internet access.
Future iterations of the EPEX system will see increased linkages with other research systems at Emory, like the eCOI, IRB, IACUC and Effort Reporting systems and eventually, it will provide the platform for system-to-system proposal submissions with Grants.gov. Currently EPEX will contribute to Emoryâ??s Green Movement, helping to cut down on paper use and copying needs and will additionally provide for increased people productivity by making better use of existing technologies.
Both instructor-led and distance learning training for EPEX are underway and will continue post go-live as needed. For more information on EPEX, please see the Office of Sponsored Programs EPEX web page at http://www.osp.emory.edu/forms/epex.cfm. An EPEX helpline is also available at: 404-727-2018.
