As the way we work continues to evolve, so does the technology we use. For the fall semester, some departments will adopt a hybrid work model, with employees working a combination of both on campus and off campus work.   • Mindfulness Practice: Every Tuesday at Noon – Practicing Mindfulness can help reduce stress, anxiety, loneliness and depression, and enhance clarity, patience, sleep and overall health.  Learn more and see login link.

  • Single Mingle: Thursday, August 26, from 4:00pm -5:00pm – Join to meet other single colleagues or reconnect with previous participants. You’ll have opportunities to connect in rotating break-out rooms and mingle with others facing similar joys and challenges of being single. Register here!

Employee Resource Groups Survey Results
In June, employees were asked for feedback about Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) as Emory is considering a structure for making ERGs more widely available to faculty and staff.  These voluntary, employee-led groups work to foster a diverse, inclusive workplace, and unite people with a shared value or characteristic, whether it's gender, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religious affiliation, lifestyle, or interest.  Allies may also join these groups to support their colleagues.  Opportunities for collaboration across ERG groups is also a common practice to build unity.  See a summary of the survey results here.


Seeking Volunteers for Orientation and Returning Student programs
We are recruiting volunteers for Orientation and Returning Student programs, and we need your help! We are hoping for a very strong staff presence this year in order to properly welcome all new students to the Emory community given the difficulties we have all faced over the past year and a half. The link below includes the volunteer opportunities available including their date, time, and descriptions. Depending on the role you sign up for, you will be contacted with more information by a volunteer coordinator.

Is Your Address and Personal Information Up-To-Date in Self-Service?
HR will soon be mailing important information about annual benefits enrollment, so now is a good time to go into Self-Service/PeopleSoft and look over your personal information. Using Self-Service, you can update your mailing address, emergency contacts, phone numbers, marital status, and more.
Due to federal regulations, we are also collecting data on veteran and disability status. While completion of this information is optional, we encourage you to complete it as it helps us to comply with federal guidelines.
Steps to Check your Personal Information:

  1. Log on to Self-Service at http://leo.cc.emory.edu
  2. Click the Personal Information tile
  3. Click the Personal Details tile
You can go into each menu item and update your information as needed and then click Save. For your address, please note that both your local and/or permanent address MUST be a U.S. address in order for your W-2 form to be mailed to you.

There Is Still Time to Complete Your 2021 Incentives

Student Financial Services is now the Student Accounts and Billing Office
In an effort to better serve our campus partners, students, and the entire Emory Community, the Student Financial Services offices in Atlanta and Oxford are changing their names to Student Accounts and Billing Office. The goal of this name change is to reduce confusion about the services we provide and how our work differs from that of complementary offices, namely the Office of Financial Aid.  

We will begin transitioning to our new name this summer and most website, signage, and other updates will be completed prior to the beginning of the 2021-22 academic year in August. 

Your individual points of contact for student accounts, billing services, and related questions will not change, although we do have a new website URL and general office email address. If your website(s) or communications reference our office, we ask that you update your materials with our new name and with the URL and email address below:

Mental Health, Minorities and All of Us Research
Mental health conditions affect people of all races and ethnicities, but members of minority groups are less likely to get treatment. Cost, access, and stigma surrounding mental illness are among the key factors that exacerbate mental health conditions in these communities. 

Assistant Professor, Department of Human Genetics, and MPI (Multiple Principal Investigator) for the All of Us Research Program at Emory, Tracie Rosser, Ph.D., notes that “precision medicine only succeeds when all groups are represented. For too long, minority health issues including minority mental health conditions have been marginalized. The All of Us Research Program hopes to help change that by providing a diverse database to researchers.”

All of Us is working to enroll one million or more participants to share data that can fuel new insights into human health. Health data from diverse people will help fill gaps in knowledge about why people get sick or stay healthy. In Atlanta, Emory has enrolled more than 5,792 volunteers in the program, more than 80% of which are from communities that have been traditionally underrepresented in biomedical research.

Currently, more than 30 research projects on mental health are being conducted by researchers using health information donated by All of Us participants. Because participants share not only their biomedical health information, but information on their personal and family health, their lifestyle, and their environment, researchers can better understand how all these factors --factors that may be different for each community, and for each person within that community-- affect health. This diverse health information may help foster precision medicine, in which care is tailored to the individual.

Preventing Hereditary Cancer Starts with a Saliva
Now available through JScreen: At-home testing for more than 60 cancer susceptibility genes associated with hereditary risks for breast, ovarian, prostate, colorectal, skin and many other cancers.

JScreen, a national initiative based out of the School of Medicine’s Department of Human Genetics, offers at-home testing for more than 60 cancer susceptibility genes associated with hereditary risks for breast, ovarian, prostate, colorectal, skin and many other cancers.

“Making cancer genetic testing accessible is key,” said Jane Lowe Meisel, MD, Associate Professor of Hematology and Medical Oncology and medical director for JScreen’s cancer program. “This type of testing is important because it alerts people to their risks before they get cancer. They can then take action to help prevent cancer altogether or to detect it at an early, treatable stage.”

About the test:
- Provides convenient at-home testing on saliva, with telehealth genetic counseling included
- Available in all 50 states
- Makes testing affordable with a low program fee
- Analyzes the BRCA genes and over 60 other cancer susceptibility genes
