MORE NEWS YOU CAN USE

Flu Shot Requirement for Faculty And Staff
This fall, Emory University is requiring that all faculty, staff and students get a flu shot no later than October 29, 2021. This requirement is another important effort in keeping the campus community healthy and minimizing strain on our healthcare systems.  Once you have gotten your flu shot, you will need to complete Emory’s Flu Attestation Form. Individuals who need a medical, religious or other exemption from the flu shot requirement can select this option on the form. Note: you will not need to upload documentation about your flu shot, but you will need to provide the date you received it. Learn more.

New Investment Options for 403(b) Retirement Plan
Emory is making some important changes to the investment options in your 403(b) Retirement Plan. You will soon have the option to invest your retirement contributions in a new, streamlined selection of funds, or to set up a self-directed brokerage account to invest in your choice of thousands of mutual funds. The new fund lineup will replace most of Emory’s existing investment options. Learn more about the changes, key dates, and what actions you may need to take on the website.

Mileage Reimbursements
We are receiving questions about mileage reimbursements associated with remote and hybrid work schedules.  In all cases of non-taxable reimbursements processed through our Travel & Expense process, Emory follows IRS regulatory guidance.  Our failure to do so could create taxable consequences for our employees.

Emory University Travel and Expense Policy (2.90) states that, when faculty and staff request mileage reimbursement, the supporting documentation, e.g., Mapquest or Google Maps, should not include the driving distance from a personal residence to Emory.

Many faculty and staff members have asked whether, if they are working from home on a particular day, the mileage from the personal residence to Emory still needs to be subtracted in computing the mileage reimbursement.

The answer is yes, as the general rules of principal place of business and commute remain.  Read more.

Stay On Top of Your Preventive Healthcare – Get A Mammogram
The purpose of a mammogram is to help detect early signs of breast cancer. Women of average risk for breast cancer should consider getting a mammogram every year beginning at age 40. Talk with your doctor to see if this is right for you.

If you are covered by an Emory medical plan, there is no out-of-pocket cost for a screening mammogram. A screening mammogram is considered preventive care and is covered at 100% (no cost to you) if in-network providers are used (Tier 1 & 2 for the Aetna HSA and POS plans). Out-of-network coverage will be subject to plan provisions after satisfying the deductible. A screening mammogram is also covered at 100% if you have the Kaiser Permanente Plan.

If you don’t have a doctor and you are on an Emory medical plan, you can search for primary care providers and specialists who participate in the Aetna plans at www.aetna.com/docfind/custom/emory or you may call Aetna at 800-847-9026. Kaiser Permanente members may search for facilities, primary care providers and specialists at www.kp.org/doctors, or you may call 404-365-0966.

Primary care providers may refer you to a specialist for this procedure, but always make sure the specialist is in-network if you want the procedure covered at 100%.

To schedule a screening at an Emory facility, please call:

  • Emory University Hospital, Emory University Hospital Midtown, or Emory Saint Joseph’s Hospital: 404-778-PINK.
  • Emory Decatur Hospital: 404-501-7243, Option 4.
  • Emory Johns Creek Hospital: 678-474-7465.

Emory WorkLife Announces Upcoming Webinars

Changing Relationships with You and Your Parents
Tuesday October 5, 2021, 12pm-1pm

It is important to communicate more calmly and productively with aging parents who can no longer live independently. Most adult children find it difficult to talk to their parents about their decline in physical and mental abilities, external care services they may need, and the possibility of new living arrangements. To make this process easier, this session will present participants with techniques that overcome common communication barriers when elders are resistant, angry, or unwilling to listen. They will also explore helpful assumptions about aging and how to understand the loss of independence from their parent’s perspective. This workshop is offered by Emory Vender WorkPlace Options. If you have any questions about this webinar or caregiver benefits at Emory please contact mary.ellen.eady@emory.edu or 404-727-4177.
