New Leader Orientation
New Leader Orientation at Emory is a program for those who are new to a leadership role at Emory, whether recently hired or internally promoted into a management position. It includes an online module component and a two-day, in-person session.
About this Program
Program Goals
The goals of the New Leader Orientation at Emory program are to:
- Provide new leaders with the tools and skills they need to begin their role at Emory
- Help new leaders understand the university’s policies and procedures
- Teach valuable managerial skills
- Develop an awareness of the resources that are available to help new leaders be successful in their new role
Invitation Process
This program is offered throughout the year. Individuals who have been recently hired or promoted into a people management role will automatically receive an e-mail invitation to attend the orientation.

Expectations
The program contains two phases:
- Completing a series of online modules
- Attending a two-day in-person training session
Participants are expected to complete all online training modules prior to attending class and attend both full-day classes.
Curriculum
Stage 1: Online modules
The online training is divided into seven 20-minute modules that cover the following topics:
- Recruiting
- Onboarding 101
- Performance Management
- Employee Relations
- Faculty Staff Assistance Program
- WorkLife
- Benefits
- Violence in the Workplace for Managers
- Learning and Organizational Development

Stage 2: Two-day classroom training
Program sessions will focus on the following themes:
- Emory history and culture
- Diversity, equity, and inclusion
- Performance management and employee development
- Motivating employees
- Building influence and trust
Program Cost
There is no cost to participate in this program.
