it pays to have friends
We believe our employees are our best source for finding future successful employees. That is why on September 1, 2022, Emory University is launching the Employee Referral Program, "It Pays to Have Friends," offering a $500 bonus to current employees who refer their friends or family members for jobs at the University. The bonus is paid for each successful referral (no maximums).

This program is open to staff members and post docs who currently hold a regular full-time or part-time position and are in good standing. The following are not eligible to receive an incentive bonus from this program:

  • Supervisors at all levels in a department for an employee hired into their department and/or reporting line
  • Faculty and faculty equivalent positions (not including post docs)
  • Human Resources professionals
  • Emory Healthcare employees
  • Temporary employees (including Emory Temporary Services, department temps, and/or 3rd party temps)
  • Contractors
  • Independent consultants
  • Volunteers
  • Students and student employees

A referral must:

  1. be someone you know personally
  2. meet the minimum qualifications of the role
  3. be selected for the position
  4. start on or after September 1, 2022
  5. remain employed for the first 90 days

Referral bonuses are paid out by the hiring department after the referred hire successfully completes three (3) months of employment. The payment will go to the referring employee in their following pay cycle. The referring employee must be employed and in good standing at the time of payout to receive the referral bonus.

The first step is to ask your referral to apply. Once they've done that, if you know the recruiter and/or hiring manager, it is fine to inform them.

No, a resume is not required initially. Refer your friend/family member using Emory's internal career portal.

After you complete your submission, a link to the job will be sent to your referral and they will be able to upload their resume through the application process. More information and detailed instructions on submitting a referral can be found here.

Employee referral bonuses are paid after three months (90 days) of your referral’s successful employment with Emory.

No. Emory University's employee referral program only supports regular status employment. Temporary employees are not eligible (this includes Emory Temporary Services temps, department temps, and/or 3rd party temps).

Contractors are also not eligible, either as a referral or a recipient of the bonus.

The bonus is $500 per successful referral, minus applicable taxes.

Each applicant is asked how they heard about the opportunity. If your referral lists you, you will be eligible for the bonus if they are hired after September 1, 2022 and they are in the role for 90 days.

The bonus will be paid to the person who first referred the individual. Emory's recruiting system has date and time stamping, so we will be able to audit the history. If they were referred to different positions, it would be for the role that the individual is hired into.

The program only supports external hiring activities. Current Emory University, Emory Healthcare, and Affiliate employees, students, temporary employees, 3rd party contractors, volunteers, vendors and retirees are not eligible as referrals for this program.

Emory alumni (students and employees) are only eligible if they have been gone from the University for at least three years.
