What are EDEN's mission and vision?

Mission

EDEN advances the full engagement of employees impacted by disability at Emory by advocating for inclusive policies and necessary resources, promoting awareness, and providing supportive programming to enhance Emory’s commitment to “creating an environment of work, teaching, living and learning that enables all persons to strive toward their highest potential.”

Vision

EDEN will drive institutional change so that employees impacted by disability can thrive and are recognized as essential contributors in the communities where we work, serve, teach, discover, and provide care.

Meet the EDEN co-chairs

 

Irwin Waldman, Professor, Department of Psychology, Emory College of Arts and Sciences

Irwin is a clinical psychologist and behavior geneticist. He completed his undergraduate degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Cornell University, graduating in 1982. He then attended graduate school at the University of Waterloo in Ontario, Canada, earning his Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology in 1988. Following his year-long clinical internship at the Lafayette Clinic in Detroit (1987-88), he completed a three-year Postdoctoral Fellowship in Behavioral Genetics at the University of Minnesota. He has been a faculty member in the Psychology Department at Emory University since the fall of 1991. He served as President-Elect / President of the Behavior Genetics Association from 2010-11 and is an Associate Editor of the journal Behavior Genetics. He has been on the editorial boards of four other journals: Journal of Abnormal Psychology, Clinical Psychological Science, Journal of Abnormal Child Psychology, and Development and Psychopathology.

 

Colin R. Grove, Assistant Professor, Department of Rehabilitation Medicine, School of Medicine

Colin graduated with a bachelor’s degree from the Physical Therapy Program at Saint Louis University in 1994. He earned a master’s degree in Kinesiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2003. Later, he completed his Doctor of Physical Therapy at Temple University in 2016 and his Ph.D. in Clinical Investigation at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in 2020. Subsequently, Dr. Grove trained as a post-doctoral fellow in vestibular physiology at Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining the faculty of the Emory School of Medicine (Center for Physical Therapy and Movement Science) in 2023, he held clinical positions at Johns Hopkins Hospital and the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics. Dr. Grove's primary clinical focus and scholarly interests relate to advancing care for individuals with dizziness and balance disorders. Colin’s visible and invisible disabilities are a part of his identity but do not define him. He is committed to working with others in the Emory community to raise awareness of and advocate for the needs of employees with disabilities.
