Yvonne Loggins, 35 Years
Tell us about your career at Emory.

Yvonne is a clinical research nurse supervisor in the Division of Neonatology within the Department of Pediatrics at the School of Medicine.
I began my career as a new graduate of nursing school in 1986 at Crawford Long Hospital. I worked exclusively as a NICU bedside nurse until 2009 when I joined the Neonatal Research team for Emory School of Medicine. I continued to work PRN in the NICU for Emory Healthcare until 2014, when I became the lead for the research team. Since 2014, I have also served as the lead coordinator for the NIH/NICHD Neonatal Research Network.
What are some of your favorite memories of your time at Emory?
Some of my favorite memories include caring for tiny patients in the NICU and watching them return each year for the Christmas Preemie Party reunion. I also remember attending the 1990 parade outside the hospital when it was announced that Atlanta would host the 1996 Olympics.
What are some of the most significant changes you have witnessed over the course of your career?
The most significant changes I have witnessed involve the care of very premature babies and term infants with special health needs. The tremendous research that Emory has contributed to through the Neonatal Research Network and other important clinical trials has greatly improved care and outcomes for these infants.

Is there anything you miss from back in the day?
I miss the Halloween parties we had in the NICU during the 1980s and 1990s. The staff made incredible costumes for the babies, and the parents loved having their little ones participate.
What do you hope for the future of Emory?
I hope Emory continues to appreciate the monumental contributions made by nursing staff to the university’s success. I also hope that education and mentoring of future nurses remain a priority to ensure we have a new generation well equipped to meet patient care needs.
