Victor Jackson, 40 years
Manager, Facilities
Campus Services
Tell us a little about the work you've done at Emory throughout your career.
Over the course of 40 years, I have worked in many different roles in Campus Services. I began working in the Staging Department for about seven years; then, I transferred to the Steam Plant as a Trades Worker for years. After that, I moved into Building Maintenance as a Trades Worker, then I was promoted to Building Mechanic, and years later promoted to Senior Mechanic. In 2004, I was promoted to Zone Supervisor, supervising sixteen direct reports until I was promoted to Facilities Manager of Operations & Maintenance in 2022.
What are some of your favorite memories of your time at Emory?
Going to Staff Fest, playing softball and games at the Campus Services Picnic, and the Christmas Parties have been my favorites.
What are some of the most significant changes you have witnessed over the course of your career?
The way Emory University has grown over the years with new buildings and technology, especially in the Research Centers. An example of this is the newly built HSRB II Research Building with state-of-the-art equipment throughout, including high-tech MRI machine, DAR facility fish tanks and rack system.
Is there anything you miss from "back in the day"?
The family environment Emory seemed to have. It was a time when we would have sisters, brothers, mothers, or fathers as coworkers throughout Campus Services.
What do you hope for the future of Emory?
I hope Emory continues to grow and develop internal staff to be able to fill management positions throughout the university.
