Leaving Emory

When it is time for you to leave employment at Emory for a job change or other reason (non-retirement), you will need to consider how your benefits will be impacted.

Benefits Actions

Make sure that you understand what will happen to each of the benefits you are enrolled in. Some benefits will end when your employment ends. Some benefits you may continue by enrolling in COBRA coverage. Other benefits are portable and you can take them with you.

To understand how your benefits will be impacted, be sure to review our Benefits Separation Checklist and Separation from Service FAQs.

If you're moving, be sure that you leave an up-to-date forwarding address.

If you have questions, contact the Benefits and Work Life Department at 404-727-7613 or hrbenef@emory.edu.

COBRA

In most cases COBRA provides you an opportunity to continue coverage for medical/prescription drugs, dental and vision for up to 18 months if you had coverage through Emory’s health plans at the time of your separation.

Upon departmental notification of your termination, Emory's COBRA Administrator will send you information on how to enroll, and the cost of coverage under COBRA. Typically, you should receive this information approximately 15 to 30 days following your termination date.

You have 60 days after your termination date, or from the date of notification, whichever is later, to complete your enrollment for COBRA continuation coverage.
