Post-65 Retirees

Emory University provides the following benefits to eligible Post-65 Retirees (retirees over age 65).

Annual Enrollment Closes October 25

Each year, Emory retirees have the opportunity to review their benefit elections during the annual enrollment period and make changes for the upcoming plan year. Annual benefits enrollment for Emory retirees ends on October 25, 2024.

All enrollment information and forms can be found on the Post-65 Retiree Annual Benefits Enrollment website.

Health Benefits

Medical Coverage

At age 65, eligible retirees will transition from Emory’s medical plan with Aetna to a Medicare health insurance exchange.

Post-65 retirees will shop for and purchase an individual plan that works with their Medicare coverage. Emory has partnered with Via Benefits, a company that is experienced in helping retirees evaluate and enroll in Medicare supplemental insurance.

This program offers:

  • More plan choices
  • Expert help choosing and enrolling in the plan
  • Ongoing support, including help with questions about coverage

Subsidy

Eligible Post-65 retirees/spouses will also receive a monthly contribution from Emory to a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) to help pay for the plan. To be eligible for the subsidy from Emory, you must be covered in the active employee medical plan or Pre-65 medical plan and must have been hired prior to January 1, 2003.

Emory employees hired after December 31, 2002 may access the services of Via Benefits, however, they are not eligible for the HRA contribution.

Dental and Vision Coverage

Dental and vision plans are also available through Via Benefits. Consider all of your options before deciding where or if you will enroll.

Dental Coverage

As a post-65 Emory retiree/spouse, you have the option to continue dental coverage through Emory with the Aetna Traditional Dental Plan.

If you elect to stay on the Aetna Traditional Dental Plan, your contribution amounts will be paid for through an automatic draft from your bank account. McGriff Insurance serves as Emory’s retiree billing administrator and you will set up your payments with them.

If you elect to receive dental coverage through Via Benefits, they will discuss payment options with you.

Vision Coverage

You also have the opportunity to enroll in vision coverage through EyeMed Vision Care. EyeMed Vision Care offers a large network of providers including the Emory Eye Center, LensCrafters, Pearle Vision and more.

For more information about Post-65 Dental and Vision Coverage, refer to the Post-65 Retiree Guide.

Life Insurance

Emory provides basic life insurance of $10,000 to those retiring from a regular full-time or part-time position (at least 20 hours per week). Coverage is provided at no cost to you.
